How the free registration funnel works

For most publishers, we recommend this funnel flow:

1) Anonymous visitor lands on an article via search or social without any restrictions

      2) Anonymous visitor attempts to read a second article and sees the free registration prompt:

      3) Anonymous visitor enters their email address and verifies their address with a one time pass code.

      4) The anonymous visitor is now a free registered subscriber and is redirected back to the article. The email address of the this free registered subscriber is automatically added to the newsletter list as well.

      5) After enjoying the second free article, the free registered subscriber navigates to a third article and is now prompted to upgrade. While this may seem very limited, it’s important to note that the vast majority of readers rarely make it to their third article in the first session. The daily/weekly newsletter is an important component in driving the free registered subscriber back to the site to trigger upgrade messaging.

      6) And finally, after checkout, the free registered subscriber is now a paid subscriber and can view unlimited articles on your site. In addition, a paid tag is added to the newsletter list for better targeting.
